Nowadays one of the easiest but underestimated ways to attract your potential Internet clients is an e-mail mailing list. This is a cheap and rather simple variant of push technologies, that is developing very fast because a mailing list brings real profit without large commercial investments.
What should you do?
You should determine goals and content of your e-mail mailing list: the main demand is to provide your clients with useful information, as outright advertisement and spurious boastful cues will be treated like spam.
Send a mailing list in the simplest format, so that your clients could get the message in a simple, but accurate and stylish look.
Be brief. Instead of long texts, place an annotation and a link to the full text of the message. But if you have promised articles in a mailing list to your subscribers, then you shouldn’t deceive them and “feed” your subscribers with notices. Let every your release to have one article and notices to other articles.
Provide your subscribers with an opportunity to refuse from getting your mailing list (unsubscribe). And your subscribers mustn’t have any difficulties if they want to refuse from your mailing list. Do not hide or write the link “unsubscribe” with too small symbols.
What shouldn’t you do?
Do not send attachment or a special additional formatting, like RTF, if you are not sure that your subscribers really want that.
Do not send useless emails (spam). You can spoil your own reputation forever. Of course you will have to do a lot of work, but as a result you will get your own list of subscribers who are really interested in your information.
Do not send emails too often. It would be enough to send one email a month to every your subscriber, to inform them about the news of the company and one email a week for information portals (of course there are exceptions for nonstandard or very popular projects). Start with sending emails once a month. You can publish mailing lists more often if the demand becomes higher.
Start collecting email addresses immediately, even if the outlook of your mailing list is not perfect yet. But your list must have only those users who have given you a permission to send information to them otherwise your emails will be treated like spam.
Add the subscription form to your web site and offer your visitors to subscribe for your mailing list. Ask the audience you already have if you can add them to your subscription list.
Make your subscribers sure that you will never give their email addresses to third persons.
You will have much more work when your subscription list will have several hundreds of email addresses. But there are companies that provide you with the service of creation and servicing email mailing list, they do almost all technical aspects, hold the statistics and so on, and you only make new releases of your mailing list.
